RE: Casual adult musicians - looking to jam?

Hey, Rich the "44 year old piano/organ player, some harmonica. mostly like to write and sing" from Bellmore.  If you are still looking to play/sing, hit me back - knowznuff@yahoo.com.

If you already hooked on with someone else, no problem.  I don't want to jump anyone else's peeps.

Thanks!

Russell

I'm baaaa-aaack!

Hey folks, thank you so much for all of the replies.  Unfortunately, there were only so many of you that I could get back to.  I am really glad to hear that some of the other respondants here got together and started jamming.  That is completely awesome.  Sorry, I already forgot the name - was it Ron the Drummer? - maybe when it warms up a little we can get our groups together and have a massive jam.

Right now what we're looking for is a singer.  The problem we have is, our drummer is a good singer but he never tried drumming and singing at the same time. Neither of the guitarists really wants to sing, and I (the bassist) love to sing, but my vocal talents fluctuate between "marginal" at the beginning of the night to "totally suck" by the end.

We don't need an "accomplished vocalist".  We need someone who knows the words to White Room and Hey Joe and Sweet Child o' Mine (or can follow along if you have the words) and other songs like that (we have a pretty decent and varied playlist).  We're looking for someone who has an open mind, is a good fit, is into hanging out, having fun and doesn't mind chipping in $8 a week to pay for the rehearsal space.  What we DO NOT want is someone with "lead singer-itis" who is gonna freak out if someone else touches the mic or if we ask you to sit out or just play a tambourine for one song while one of the others sings.

Basically, we're four guys who play cover songs on Wednesday nights in Mineola.  We're not looking to be rock stars and we really don't even have any aspirations of making a single penny off of what we do. It is all for fun. We're all around 40 yrs old and we have day jobs. But the music is starting to sound good and we need someone better than me to sing it.

(Hey, if a paying gig comes out of it someday, that is cool. But we're not looking at that as our Holy Grail.)

So all you closet shower singers, this is your chance. Tell me why you should be invited next week!

Thanks again everyone!  I really appreciate it!

Russell

I'm a guitarist looking to jam on classic blues stuff, and to jam in general, for the fun and learning experience of it. And I'm looking to do it at a casual, easy, fun, pace, with no deadlines or pressure. I have a lot of professional experience being in original bands, but we tended not to jam much, so I don't have tons of jamming experience, though I've always loved it, and want to develop that aspect of my musicianship. I'm on hiatus these days, keeping a low profile. I'm not self-conscious which usually helps others not to feel self conscious. (I've been there) My email is alliancemo@yahoo.com Where are you located? I'm in South Shore, Suffolk near patchogue.

I'm presently looking for a drummer, bassist and singer and if possible, keyboard player to start a simple blues rock band to start playing out this coming summer! I was in a pretty decent metal band in the past and am looking to start with just some simple blues progressions and see where that takes us. If interested, e-mail me at kcc83@optonline.net and we'll take it from there. Just so you get an idea of how my guitar playing is, here's a few songs I wrote a while back. These songs are more of a progressive rock style and we don't hafta get too comlicated.

Heres a couple of tracks we put together...not too thrilled w/the singer but it's just for fun anywayz. I'm playing rythm and lead guitar and do all the background vocals! Notice the 80's flavor in my music!

Find Your Way
Give "Find Your Way" a minute to start!

I can set up rehearsal space in my basement:D

Hey, I like the tone of this post!! Maybe we can help each other out. My band is drums, 2 guitars, female singer, and of course we need a bass to complete it. We're fairly skilled, but really need someone who can play the basics like Zep, Skynnrd, Petty, Killers, Journey, maybe some Rush if we feel like flexing our muscles, etc. All the good bar band stuff that gets people up and dancing.

We're ages 29 through 40 (thats me) and we're really nice. We dont want to tour Europe or anything, just gig once or twice a month. We need someone who can play, whos dependable, and who will fit in well.

If interested contact me at Matthew.Raia@Ace-ina.com

Hey, this thread has turned into a geezer watering hole! I'm a guitarist @ 52, just left a band and am looking for something to happen. I'm in ronkonkoma. For some reason most seem to be into blues/classic rock. Anybody into hard rock, progressive or fusion music??? I mostly played originals but have a bunch of transcriptions...zep (YEAH!) heart, mountain, VH, rush...but this isn't "jammin" music...this has to be studies and worked...but a lot of classic rock is pretty easy to pick up. Anywho......... I'm at winslowgofar@hotmail.com

Geezer drummer here....I am open to that type of music myself and located right next door to you in Lake Grove. Give me a call @ 981-1124 or e-mail garygpm@aol.com

Hi...I live near Stony Brook hospital - work too much - but would love to play with musicians who also have too much on their plate to perform several gigs monthly... I am a keyboard player - have played for years - love old rock....Tull, Traffic, Crosby, Still, Nash & Young, Doors, Santana, The Band, Cream....I can practice typically once weekly....and can do harmony fairly well....I have good equipment - but I am still confused on how to get everything I can out of this Motif...

Your honesty about yourself made me smile.... where do u live? and what are ya thinking?

Hey guys,

I hope maybe you guys can get together, but I am located in Levittown.  So you guys are a bit of a hike from me.

If I am going to be out that way I will touch base though.

Thanks for the response!

Hey Russell, I am a 48 year old guitarist/voc also looking to jam . I already play in a acoustic/harp duo , yet miss playing electric. I can line up a drummer if needed. Music wise I'll play just about anything . Blues being my favorite . I'm out here in Manorville.

What's up?

If you're like me, you started playing well after you were a teenager and you enjoy the hell out of it.

The problem that I encounter is that I started playing the bass 8 years ago - I am 42 - and the majority of the people at my skill level are 25 years old. The majority of the people my age have been playing for 25 years. So neither wants to jam with me.

I play a decent bass. I downplay my skills. But I can add a good bottom to most music. Anyone looking for a Les Claypool solo jam bassist is out of luck. But I enjoy playing all kinds of music - ALL KINDS!

I would love to have an opportunity to jam with other people (late 20s and beyond/any skill level/male or female/any instrument) who are in the same boat as me. Who knows, maybe a band might result from the whole thing. Believe me, I am very open minded about your skills. If you are self-concious AT ALL then you are exactly the person that I want to talk to. And if not, then that is cool too.

Hit me back if you are interested or if you just want to compare notes.

Thanks!
Russell
