I am a songwriter who particulary enjoys writing lyrics. I play bass and sing as well.
I am a bit confused, however, that you describe your music as "eclectic" but then conclude that you want to appeal to a "wide audience, young or old." I, too, write songs that may not be considered commercial and span many genres but have always found being eclectic and appealing to a wide audience mutually exclusive.
In any event, I would be interested in speaking with you and see if we have any common ground. I still perform here and there and would love to bond with some people and gig on a more regular basis.

Is there a place I can listen to your stuff to get an idea of the feel of your music?
Actually that would be kind of meaningless at the moment because you've not mentioned what your influences are so I have no idea what I may have that would appeal to you.
Besides, I'm only one part of the equation. Any music that might result is in a way unknown without the participation of other collaborators ideas and influence.
I don't have tunnel vision with regards to music. I can go from electronic to rootsy contemporary acoustic to punk to jazz to hard rock to alternative to pop.
Its better you tell me what you're into. I'll try and come up with a small section of music based on that, upload it, and you folks can record on your system what you feel works, then upload so I can retrieve and listen. If there's some 'magic' happening, take it from there.
If there is anyone out there who would be interested in collaborating in writing eclectic original songs please respond. Gender unimportant. If you are also fairly capable any instrument that would add benefit is welcome but not a requirement. Having a computer recording system (DAW) would be very helpful for the ability to record each others ideas and then share them as an adjunct to in person writing sessions.
I do fall in the upper middle age range so please take that into consideration. Ultimately it all boils down to chemistry with music malking of course, and a professional attitude. Loose, friendly, fun, funny, easy going, but with a serious and pro foundation. As far as location and traveling is concerned, roughly anywhere between LIE exits 49 - 65/68-ish for all concerned, although, people outside a realistic traveling range there's always an internet/file sharing only collaborative effort. (People do collaborate now all across the planet)
This is all about the joy and satisfaction of music creativity. As the saying goes, do what you love first and the rest will follow.
The door is always open for a live performing act, ideally in a sort of compact, but grand sounding, duo/trio/quartet format.
